Why I Created Protect Your Peace Counselling: A Personal Journey to Healing and Mental Wellness
Starting Protect Your Peace Counselling wasn’t just a career decision – it was a deeply personal mission that grew from my own journey through healing and self-discovery.
Like many of the clients I work with today, I’ve faced my share of struggles with mental health, and creating this space felt like a natural extension of the growth I’ve experienced. Because I know everyone needs support & it’s hard to get it when there aren’t many ‘good’ therapists out there.
The Roots of My Healing Journey
For much of my life, I carried the weight of unresolved trauma, anxiety, and moments of deep sadness.
There were days when I felt lost, disconnected, and unsure of how to move forward.
I thought I had figured it all out in a loving monogamous relationship, I had partied, tried all different drugs, studied, become a yoga teacher, a nurse, my own doula birth educator business, worked with thousands of individuals on their healing journeys- and I was unravelled instantly by a major personal trauma (story for another day)
This experience; like many that destroy your reality- thrust upon me the opportunity to die, or heal.
For the first time I began prioritising my own mental well-being and I truly started to experience transformation.
Therapy, self-reflection, mindfulness, Masterson approach, Gottman method and attachment theory- helped me realise that healing isn’t linear, it is a life long journey that ebbs and flows with constant need for nurturing and care.
During this time, I learned to value peace – the kind that comes not from avoiding life’s challenges but from facing them with intention and care.
I began to notice the profound impact that mental wellness had on my relationships, my ability to cope with stress, and even how I viewed myself.
This shift fuelled my passion for helping others find their own path to peace and healing.
Why “Protect Your Peace”?
The name “Protect Your Peace” carries deep significance. In a world filled with constant noise, stress, and external pressures, protecting our inner peace is essential.
I wanted to create a counselling service that not only addresses mental health struggles but also empowers people to set boundaries, rediscover joy, and nurture their well-being.
It’s a reminder that we are all deserving of peace, even in the midst of life’s storms.
The Importance of Mental Wellness
Through my personal experiences, I’ve come to understand that mental health is the foundation for everything – our relationships, work, and how we engage with the world.
When we prioritise our wellness, we show up more fully for ourselves and others.
The process of healing has allowed me to connect with people more deeply and empathise in ways I never thought possible.
Now, as a counsellor, I draw on both my professional training and personal experiences to offer clients a space where they feel truly seen and heard.
I believe that healing isn’t about “fixing” someone but about walking alongside them as they uncover their strength and resilience.
